Fiona Huggins

Post-graduate student (MA)

My MA research uses ceramics (pottery) as a tool for tracing the history, movement and interaction of people during the Early Iron Age. I focus on low fired ceramics from the Letaba site and integrate stylistic analysis with compositional techniques, including portable X-ray fluorescence and optical petrology. These analyses help to identify clay source areas to see if people produced their own vessels locally, traded vessels from neighbouring communities, or both. The project results will provide a clearer understanding of the nature of early trade networks and settlement patterns in the Letaba region.
